console.log("Hello, World!");

Another software engineer's blog. A space for me to share side projects, thoughts about trends in engineering, leadership advice, and my journey.
console.log("Hello, World!");

tl;dr

  • Name’s Greg, nice to meet you.
  • I’m a software engineer and manager with aspirations of growing into a CTO.
  • I’m blogging now—Expect posts about side projects, rambles about my journey as a software engineer, leadership advice, etc.

With so many software developer blogs out there, you might be thinking I’m shouting into the wind by starting one. You’re probably right, but I'm going to do it anyway!

Hello there, my name is Greg, and I’m a software developer and engineering manager!

Over the past year I’ve had interesting conversations with friends and mentors about technology trends, side projects, leadership, mentorship, and more. I figure starting a blog is a great way to share some of my insights and knowledge as I journey through a software engineering career.

A little bit about myself: I graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2014 with a bachelor’s in computer science and a Master of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. I started blogging about my side projects back in 2013, while working for the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department. You’ll see that blog post soon—I'm resurrecting it from the depths of the wayback machine.

I originally aspired, like most new CS grads, of moving to the west coast to begin my journey at a small startup. However, opportunity brought me back to my hometown, working at HCA Healthcare’s subsidiary Parallon, on the Architecture team, at a company with 235,000 employees.

HCA taught me many important lessons as I moved through different development and leadership roles over my 7 years there. I’m now at a smaller company, a bona fide software engineer SaaS provider, continuing on my journey.

The eventual goal is to grow into a CTO role at a medium/large size organization, leveraging my passion for technology with my, at that point, extensive experience driving technical strategy in line with the company’s business objectives.

Until then though, you can find me here, talking about some of the interesting projects I’m working on (both technical and non-technical), late night thoughts about engineering, leadership, mentorship, and all things tech. I hope you enjoy!
